2022 March Update
We’re so happy to be giving our first update for 2022; we have so much good news to share. Our government has just removed the Covid test requirements for fully-vaccinated international travellers, which will boost travel and help our country’s economy. And closer to home, it also takes a burden off those planning to come and serve with us this year. We welcome our first team in April and begin a busy trip season. We are grateful to have ten trips planned with Crossroads Church this year and can’t wait to welcome groups again.
Johannesburg
In Johannesburg, the preschool at Kya Sand began the new year in January and now has 100+ students on the register. Trinity School is coming on Wednesdays to retrieve our Grade R (kindergarten) students for further instruction/enrichment. The feeding program in Soweto is going well. We recently purchased Rise against Hunger boxes for our Soweto feeding program, 8600 meals to get the year started!
Ndwedwe
In Ndwedwe, a lot is happening at our newest preschool, Preschool #3. It’s our biggest preschool in KZN, with 45 students attending. We have been busy installing the water tanks onsite, finishing the kitchen and finishing the cladding on the “outside classroom”
In the fall, we received a container to be used as a classroom for Preschool #3 from Master Provisions, who shipped it from the U.S. filled with supplies. We have been busy emptying the container and distributing all the supplies and are now prepping and painting it - getting it ready for teams to make it a bright, cheerful classroom.
And the bakery in Tembe’s community is also nearing completion and soon will be up and running.
Thandi
In honour of International Woman’s Day this month, we wanted to recognize Thandi Meyiwa. She began her relationship with Build The Future as an instructor for our agricultural program and is now one of our board members. Some of you who have been on a trip with us may have met Thandi but not had the chance to hear her inspiring story. The Crossroads media team that visited in June captured it on video, and we loved it so much we want to share it with you!
