We’re excited to bring back our Preschool Education Trip for 2025! Building on the success of last year’s program, this trip is all about empowering teachers and fostering early childhood education. Led by Thandi, our education leader, the program will take place at Joe’s Preschool (Preschool Four) and will involve working directly with teachers across all Build The Future sites. You’ll have the opportunity to offer hands-on training that will help nurture the next generation of learners and create lasting change in these communities. It’s a powerful, transformative experience, and we’d love for you to be a part of it!

Airfare

The $1900 trip fee does not include airfare from the US to Johannesburg (JNB). Each participant will be responsible for booking their own flights. We are happy to assist with flight recommendations and travel plans if needed.

Important flight note

When booking your flights from the US to Johannesburg (JNB), this is an overnight trip. Book your departure from the US on June 27 to arrive in Johannesburg on June 28. For your return, book your departure from Johannesburg (JNB) on July 5 to arrive in the US on July 6.

If Build The Future cancels the trip for any reason, all funds will be fully refunded.

If you withdraw from the trip:

  • Up to 90 days before the departure date: Full refund

  • 61-90 days before the departure date: The $250 deposit is non-refundable

  • 0-60 days before the departure date: All funds are non-refundable

FAQs

  • We’ll be staying in Ballito, a charming beachfront area on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean. We will also spend time in Johannesburg for cultural experiences before heading to Durban for workdays at the preschools.

  • The focus of this trip is preschool teacher training under Thandi’s leadership, working directly with teachers at all Build The Future sites. Activities will be centered on offering hands-on support to empower local educators and strengthen early childhood education. Non-teachers, friends, and family are all welcome to join. There will be lots of great options/opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference too!

  • We’ll grocery shop for breakfast items to have in our condos, and pack lunches for our workdays. Dinners will be enjoyed at local restaurants. A few may be catered at the condos.

  • On July 4, we’ll take a guided game drive at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve. This experience offers the chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinoceros, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Learn more about Thula Thula.
